One of Otara’s “finest” passed away on 30 April 2025. Saulo was a student at Hillary College from 1987 until the end of 1991. During that time at Hillary, Saulo was a member of the Hillary College 1st XV 1991 (Vice Captain), Senior Touch Football Team – 1989,90,91, New Zealand Schools Touch Football Team 1991), winning the Auckland Secondary Schools Touch Football Championships for 1989, 1990, and 1991. Saulo was an integral part of the success of the 1st XV team which played in the. 1A Grade 1n 1991. Rugby League was Saulo’s great passion and he was an Auckland grade Rugby League Rep, an Otara Scorpion Premier player for many years including being part of the great 1996 team that won the Fox Final at Carlaw Park. Saulo was one of the very best Community people too. He served with the Youth Section at the Otara Police Station for many years and from there transitioned into the Justice Department as a Team Leader in Corrections in Prisons (Counselling). He will be sorely missed by the Otara Community. Gary Peach, May 2025
