Gary Peach

Greetings everyone. I was a former student of Hillary College from 1970 - 1973 and during that time I developed a huge desire and passion to return one day as a teacher to "give back" to a place that gave me so much which shaped my values and awareness to all cultures and life in general.

I did fulfill that life-long ambition and returned to Teach for ten wonderful years teaching Graphics, Workshop Technology, Physical Education and Outdoor education from 1987 to the end of 1996. During that time I helped organise the 1991 25th Jubilee being the Chairperson of the Committee.

Currently, I am Chair of the interim OC,HC,SEHC Alumni Board which I helped form along with Erin Poa (nee Cooper). Having a creditable Alumni for our beloved school which is now known as Sir Edmund Hillary Collegiate, has been a huge passion of mine and Erin's for a very long time as it was for another former student, Paeariki Mataroa. After Paeariki's passing (Year ???), Erin and I decided to fulfill this desire and passion in her honour so got it under way to where it is today an "Interim" Alumni Board.

The current Board is pursuing Incorporated Society status for the Alumni so that we can have credibility and accountability. We also want to assist the school in areas where they need support both financially and experientially and being an Incorporated Society will allow us to apply for funding to cover the financial aspect. A Constitution is currently being finalised by Board Members to go with our Application.

I am putting my name forward to continue on the Board for a period of time to see the application for Incorporated Society fulfilled and would appreciate my former students and staff support.

Serving as an educator for 20 years in our Otara rohe I am always proud to serve our tamariki and celebrate the successes of our talented, gifted and amazing people of Otara anywhere in the world.
I committed to seeing the establishment of our OCHCSEHC Alumni after answering the call of Mr Gary Peach who has always been passionate about the special place we all called home, where for many of us we followed in the footsteps of our parents, aunties, uncles, cousins and siblings having been raised in Otara since the great migration from the Pacific and for my whanau from Rarotonga, Mangaia, Atiu and Aitutaki.
I also wanted to honor the loving memory of my Aunty Paeariki Mataroa Johnson (previous Tumuaki of Rongomai School, Otara) who shared a passion for acknowledging the greatness of students who made OCHCSEHC their place of learning and growing. There are so many success stories that deserve to be shared through the Alumni and so many more new successes to happen through the contribution the Alumni will make to current students finding their pathway in life.
